Template Deployment error 26558

$

0

Hello,

I know there's certain problems with Gen2 VMs and templates, but I also cannot deploy templates from Gen1 machines.

When I do so, it ends up in error 26558 stating:
VMM could not apply the access control entries on share NO_PARAM. This is needed for fast file copy transfers.

Recommended Action
Ensure that the file share is managed by VMM and that the management account has full access to the file share.

-

But I dont know which share it is talking about.
I can create / migrate machines without a problem. Also I'm quite sure it has full permissions on all file shares.

The full report it refers to can be found here http://nopaste.info/7b9642e98d.html

The report refers to floppy drives, but my machines don't have any floppy drives assigned.

can anyone tell me what to do?

thanks!

Canceled job for moving VM stuck

$

IN SCVMM 2012 R2 we were trying to move a VM  to another host, but because the move action took way to long, we canceled the move job. Now this job is stuck and the status of the VM is also stuck on Canceling or on 18% (moving progression). Refreshing the VM is failing with the message that a job is locked by another.

Running a Get-SCJob does not contain the job that is stuck, so we're unable to force a stop.

The VM contains a 1TB SQL Server database and uses up to 128GB of memory. This VM is business critical, so we like to avoid deleting and restoring the VM.

Anyone any suggestions how to solve this?

template stuck in status "creation failed" -> unusable

hello,

I have a template stuck in status: "creation failed".
I can't edit or use it.
Error message is:Source Template xyz is not in a valid state. Select a template that is in a valid state. ID 697
But it does not tell me how to get it into a valid state :(
I already deleted the VM that resulted from the creation status and also was in a failed status ofc.

How do i get the template to work again?

thanks!

Fully Manage Hyper-V 2012 R2 Replica with SCVMM 2012 R2?

Is it possible to fully manage Hyper-V Replica using SCVMM 2012 R2 for Hyper-V 2012 R2 hosts?  The lack of documentation and other search results lead me to believe it is NOT possible.

SCVMM 2012 R2 Dynamic Optimization doesn't work

I found many similar questions in the forum. However, they doesn't resolve my issue.

I have two Windows Server 2012 R2 installed with Hyper-V and cluster enabled. They are managed by a SCVMM 2012 R2(the RTM version). I have "Automatically migrate virtual machines to balance load" and have CPU and Memory threshold specified. However, nothing happened. I tried to execute "OPtimize Hosts" and got the following information.

Removed SCVMM SP1 Manually and cannot reinstall

I had to remove SCVMM 2012 SP1 from a 2012 Windows Server manually and I do mean manually. "I tried all conventional means to uninstall the program normally"... I've been through the registry and removed all entries regarding SCVMM and deleted all folders on the server as well

When I start a new install, Its telling me that some components are still there, specifically the VMM Management Server component. Does anyone know what the install is looking at prior to actually launching the install.

SCVMM2012R2 reinstall

Uninstall went through, but a bunch of messages came up.

Could not disconnect active SQL connection

Could not remove some file, go to "C:\ProgramFiles\System Center 2012\VMM\Bin\Something -uninstall"

Went there and there were no files.

Now I can't reinstall the darn thing, everytime I run setup it says "restart pending".

Unable to delete an Orphaned Checkpoint

Hi,

I have a SCVMM 2012 R2 instance with 3 hosts

I recently moved a VM between the hosts which failed. Having tidied up I was left with a bunch of checkpoints on the VM, which I removed via the SCVMM GUI

The VM shows that it has no checkpoints (which is good), however some other objects within SCVMM (Namely VM Networks) show the checkpoints as dependencies, meaning I can't delete the VM Network.

If I run get-scvmcheckpoint from powershell I'm returned 4 checkpoints, none of which have an associated VM

(output from most recent below)

And If I try get-scvmcheckpoint | remove-scvmcheckpoint I'm just returned an error:

Is there any way for me to remove these orphaned checkpoints?

Hyper-V / NVGRE Gateways / SCVMM 2012 R2

I am currently investigating the roll out of network virtualisation using Hyper-V, Windows Server gateway and SCVMM 2012 R2

I have tested deploying a single WSG in a single datacentre and I can get VMs working with Network Virtualisation.

I have a requirement to deploy network virtualisation in multiple datacentres so that I am able to amongst other things live migrate VMs between datacentres with next to no downtime.

My question is what do I need to deploy to make this work?

For example do I need a WSG in each datacentre and if so are they completely independent of one another or are they aware of one another?

I understand that each datacentre will have its own provider address space but I'm assuming the customer VM network will be the same at each datacentre - this would mean the customer VM network gateway IP would be in two locations but does this matter if the provider addresses are different?

Is there anyone who has experience configuring WSG / NVGRE at multiple sites who could give some useful tips?

Thanks

John.

DHCP/IP Pool for all VM's in a Hyper-V Cluster

Hi all,

What I am looking for I believe is quite simple, but I have had no experience configuring anything other than basic networking, so would need some help.

In a nutshell we have some Hyper-V servers configured in a cluster/cloud - and I would like the VM's created by VMM in the cluster/cloud to have automatically assigned IP's on a subnet that does not affect production (in my case, 10.101.50.0/24 would work) whilst maintaining access to our external network. Our currently configuration is detailed below:

A cluster has been created containing 4 Hyper-V servers. The Hyper-V servers have manual IPs in 10.101.3.0/24.

The 4 Hyper-V servers are connected to a physical Switch which in turns connects to the company network & gives external access.

On each Hyper-V server, we have a virtual switch called, "VirtualSwitch", the VM's have 1 adapter each connected to this switch (with manual IP's currently also in the 10.101.3.0/24 range)

As you can see it's a really basic setup, but if someone could help me configure this, it would be great. I probably haven't given enough information here as I don't know what else is needed. I will be happy to provide more information if requested! Thanks in advance.

Cluster Live Storage Migration completes without deleting the source virtual hard disk VHDX

Testing HV setup in a cluster of two nodes with shared FC storage.  Storage is CSV on both nodes.  Storage migration of a VM from C:\ClusterStorage\A to C:\ClusterStorage\B completes without any problem.  Upon completion, the source VHDX are still left at C:\ClusterStorage\A.  The source files can be deleted manually.  All is done through VMM "Migrate Storage" option.  Why the storage migration does not delete the source files upon job completion?  Thanks!

App Controller 2012 R2, cannot open multiple console windows at the same time

$

Hi All

I have just moved from SCVMM 2012 SP1 and AppController 2012 SP1 to the 2012 R2 versions. In the previous version my users were able login to app controller, select the virtual machine that they wanted to connect to and click on the console button (or right click and select console) and this would open in a new tab in IE, they could do this for multiple VM's and could have multiple tabs in IE so that they could switch between them easily.

However, since the upgrade, they can now open only one console tab. each time they click on a new VM and select console, it will open in the same IE tab. Meaning that switching between console sessions on multiple machines has become a lot harder.

I've checked all the obvious IE options, and multiple machines/users, so this seems to be a setting in Silverlight or in IIS somewhere that has changed. I've had a good search around (bing/google) but can't find anything. Has anyone got any suggestions on how we can get back to the old multiple consoles in there own tab scenario?

Cheers

Darren

SCVMM 2012 R2 not able to connect to it's DB.

Hi all,

We are having SCVMM 2012 R2 in prod, Because of power failure this server got down recently & I came to know about this from the critical errors in the event logs after this i am unable to connect to the SCVMM console.

Here is the Log file error:-

Microsoft.VirtualManager.DB.CarmineSqlException: Unable to connect to the VMM database.
Ensure that the SQL Server is running and configured correctly. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open database "VirtualManagerDB" requested by the login. The login failed.
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM'.

The NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM & svcscvmm(this account was used to run the scvmm service & to connect to db) account is the DB owner of the SCVMM DB.

Thanks,

Pranay.

Error 2927 when creating VM from template to remote SMB storage or CSV volume.

Hi everybody! When you try to create a VM from a template cause an error (2927), this occurs only if I create a VM on remote SMB storage or CSV volume, if I create a VM from a template on a local repository server (local disk C:\ for example) Hyper-while no such problem and everything goes well. Already during the week I can not solve this problem, and  and tried many methods but they do not help. Please help me to solve this problem. OS 2012R2 with last update, VMM2012R2 with last update. Thx!

Setup MPIO using Virtual Machine manager 2012 R2

Hi,

I wonder whether it is possible to configure my hyper-v hosts for MPIO to connect to an ISCSI target using SCVMM 2012 R2.

I can setup MPIO on the hosts itself just fine, but for the life of me, can't figure out how to achieve this from within scvmm without touching the hyper-v hosts. The ISCSI storage does not support smi-s so that could be a limiting factor.

I tried creating a virtual switch specifically for ISCSI, but when I try to assign that to my host, it only lets me bind it to one nic, as I've chosen not to team it in the port profile I guess.

Anyone know whether this is possible, and potentially have the steps needed to do this?

When you using a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, how many displays are allowed on an individual virtual desktop? I cannot find this anywhere in technet.

It's painful to use Dynamic Optimization in SCVMM 2012 R2

I asked a similar question in this forum a while ago. Here is the link.

I read the suggested blogs. However, the pain is persist.

Here is my environment:
1. Two computer with Windows Server 2012 R2 and Hyper-V enabled.
2. One computer with 10GB memory(HV001), another with 4GB(HV002).
3. With different memory on the computers, so I configured the reserves on the host individually. One HV001, the reserve is 5500MB, another is 1000MB. CPU reserve is the same, 10%. As you can see the following screenshot.

I created 3 VMs(2 with 1GB memory each other, the 3rd with 512MB) and put them running on the host HV001.
When I tried to create the 4th VM and put it on HV001, I got the following information.

However, when I tried to run "OPtimize Hosts" and got the same result like the one in my last post.

Is there a easy way to use dynamic optimization in SCVMM?
