I would like to import/export copy/paste a VHDX/template to a remote library. I thought this would be simpler but it is turning out not to be.
We have two offices. One office has the VMM server (local) the other office is remote and I want to store the VHDX/template files on this. This way when I deploy VM's from the local office to the remote office it can use the VHDX/template files from the remote library and not have to travel back to the local office to grab the large VHDX files over the pipe.
I have been able to add the remote library with ease. Do I need to do something special to the library to add VHDX files?
I thought I could just export the Physical Resource with the VHDX and then import the Physical Resource back into the remote library but this generated an error 'unable to import \\remoteserver\share\vm.vhdx because of syntax error in file'. Okay odd considering it is just one file with no code... So then I tried to simply copy and paste the file on the remote server. Same error message. Tried to use PowerShell to import/export the file - did not work. '.vhdx not recognized as a valid file type' or something similar showed up in the shell.
Then I attempted to create a service template thinking this was needed instead of VM template and this did not work either. I would even be willing to create a new template but I can not browse the remote library for the VHDX because VMM cannot add it...
We run VMM SP1 the latest version. Am I missing something- another add on product? Shouldn't this be easier to do? Or is the import/export Physical Resource not working as designed? If I could just add the VHDX to the remote library I could recreate the template file to point to this remote VHDX. Spent sometime looking at other forums and technet and did not find much. Most of the errors people had was between VMWare and HyperV. This started off as a VHDX and I would like to keep it as a VHDX file...
Remote Library Physical Location. I just added the service template but this does not work either. Could I edit the XML file and hardcode the VHDX file path? This just seems like trouble? I don't think the template would be able to see the VHDX file...
Thanks for any help on this. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
Remote Library is 'mntrngdc'
Error Message every hour on library refresh about the syntax?
