Hello all,
In our environment, I have a VMM 2012 SP1 production server with two Hyper-V 2008 R2 clusters, and a VMM 2012 R2 beta dev server also with two Hyper-V 2008 R2 clusters.
For each VMM instance (production and dev), I'm building a new server with Windows Server 2012 R2 and each will have a fresh VMM 2012 R2 RTM instance. We don't need to upgrade these VMM servers because we don't do anything where retaining the data is necessary, plus we are switching both the Windows OS (each VMM server is currently on Windows Server 2012) and to a new SQL server for each.
Anyway, I'm wondering what I need to worry about if I want to migrate clusters from these VMM servers to brand new ones? For example, I need to migrate both clusters on the VMM 2012 R2 beta VMM server to a VMM 2012 R2 RTM server. Can I simply add the new cluster in the new VMM and choose to disassociate that cluster from the old VMM server, or do I need to remove it from the old VMM server first before adding it to the new one? Mostly I'm just not sure if the agents can be upgraded or if it will require me to remove the agent before adding to the new VMM server.
Also, I've noticed that, when adding a brand new, unused cluster to VMM 2012 R2 (and VMM 2008), we seem to be required to reboot each cluster host before they work properly. I'm curious if I would need to do that when I migrate a cluster to a new VMM server, too.
Thanks!
