Can someone please confirm what I fear/suspect: In System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager, I have to count ALL of the VMs - not the hosts - if I want to use the standard edition licenses.
We are a development shop, and so we have tons of vm's lying around for all kinds of testing purposes and for dormant projects. Most of them are off, but they are still there. We also move the vm's around a lot between hosts to utilize capacity properly.
Consequently, the natural replacement for my wonderful single SCVMM 2008 R2 Workgroup license, which covers all the VMs in the world on 5 hosts becomes 5 system center 2012 datacenter licenses. Hmm.
SCVMM 2008 R2 workgroup = USD 470 on Amazon
5 x System Center 2012 Datacenter = USD 18,035 on mla.microsoft.com
or a 3800 % increase !
Please tell me I am wrong.
