Hi,
We run a 4 node 2012R2 cluster and use SCVMM 2012R2 to manage it.
Migrating a VM from one node to another gives us a ton of errors as we have not setup IP Pools for the Logical Networks.
As we don't want to use Hyper V to assign IP addresses to our VM's (typical servers, so have fixed IP's) an option would be to set the NIC in SCVMM to Dynamic IP rather that Static IP (from static IP pool), however we find by doing this that the next time the VM is restarted its NIC configuration is now set to DHCP creating all sort of issues for our users and applications.
Secondly after changing the VM back to its fixed IP from DHCP (inside the VM), we now find that the NIC Properties in SCVMM now are set to Static IP (from a static IP pool bring us back to where we started!
So it looks like we are "forced" to create static IP pools for all our logical networks, but why? If the VM has a fixed IP assigned internally why is this needed? When is it used? I think it may use it when doing a live migration, but for what?
I would love if someone could explain this!
